There are several events that will be coming up as we enter the new year, so this may be a good time to put them on your calendar. These include fly fishing shows and fly tying events held by local and state fly fishing clubs.
Dr. Ed Rizzolo Fly Tying Festival
The Texas Fly Fishers in Houston will be putting on their Dr. Ed Rizzolo Fly Tying Festival. Last year was the first time I attended and I'm planning on heading up there again. Of course, I get to see my grandson, Macko, and his parents. Hopefully, I'll be tying again. It will be held at the Bethany Christian Church, 3223 Westheimer Road. You can probably get more information as the event gets close at the Texas Fly Fishers website, www.texasflyfishers.org.
The Guadalupe River Trout Unlimited Club holds an annual event that brings some great speakers and vendors. Its not too far either since its held in New Braunfels around the latter part of February. They have a meal, raffle, and door prizes if you arrive for the Friday night activities. You can learn to cast from some outstanding IFFF Certified Casting Instructors. I didn't find any information yet, but it should be up soon at http://www.grtutroutfest.org/.
Fly Fish Texas
Fly Fish Texas will be held again at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens, Texas on March 12, 2016. This will be my third time to plan for this trip. If you want to get your fill of catching stocked rainbow trout, this is really a must. Bring a kid and your significant other. If they have never caught a fish on a fly, they are sure to catch a few.
More information will be available as soon as I get it. You should also go to www.riograndeflytyers.org for information about our fly tying events coming up in November.
