Laguna Madre Fly Fishing Association

2008

Fly Tying Schedule

Purpose

The purpose of this schedule is to provide individuals with an opportunity to learn fly tying techniques. The flies we tie serve two purposes:  1. to learn fly tying techniques and 2. to learn to tie effective patterns that can be used on our local inshore species.  Because of escalating gas prices, the venues will be made available at convenient locations (eg., Port Isabel, Brownsville, Harlingen).  Larry's sessions are on Wednesday and Rey's are on Tuesday's.

Changes to Schedule

Check this schedule often because the dates may be changed to accommodate Larry's fishing schedule and Rey's teaching schedule.

How to Sign Up

Please contact the instructor through e-mail or phone if you are planning to attend.  The sessions will be limited to no less than three individuals or to no more than 10.  Please contact the instructor if there is a change in your plans to attend.

Overview

A variety of flies will be tied based on interest and level of expertise.  Usually two flies are tied per session.  Basic fly tying sessions will be provided approximately every six months to introduce beginners to fly tying.

Cost

The cost of the sessions would be only to purchase hooks and materials. I would think that $2.50 per session would be reasonable.  That's the cost of two flies.  The sessions are free if you bring your own materials.  The recipe below gives you an idea of the materials you will need to bring.  You can begin collecting materials slowly.  Its a good idea to bring your own tools, but some will be available, as well as, vices.
